Germany in March: Weather, Fun Festivals & Travel Tips
Germany weather in March – temperature and rain
In Germany, March represents the bridge from winter to spring. At lower altitudes, the first flowers are blooming and nature is slowly waking up from its hibernation. In the low mountain ranges and parts of eastern Germany, on the other hand, you often still feel like it’s winter. Spring usually comes first in the southwest. On average, March can boast a temperature of 3.6 degrees. But night frosts are just as possible as short-term values of up to 20 °C.
Like the other winter months, March is also a dry month with 49 mm. Occasional snow showers can still occur in the lowlands; however, a continuously closed snow cover is no longer to be expected, even at higher altitudes.
The number of sunshine hours increases rapidly in March. 130 – 140 hours are now the norm. After the mountainous areas enjoyed sunshine from October to February, the lowlands and flatlands are preferred from now on.
